In the marina where we camped last night see the above picture, there was a large seal wallowing between the boat. In the morning 3 herons were swooping in and around the boats.
Last night we went out in search of the northern lights unfortunately no luck but we did witness the moonrise.
The plan was today to head to Lerwick park the van on the headland which according to Facebook was the only place that allowed free camping. It’s a beautiful spot close to toilets but horribly exposed to the elements as it’s right on the headland easily the highest point around.
We managed to hunker down behind a building hopefully shielding us from some of it! We had hoped to catch the bus to the old capital of Shetland having checked that bus would take Gordon. Having walked to the bus stop and waited for the bus only to be told that dogs aren’t allowed on an empty bus. That made as re-evaluate our plans. We decided to walk in and around Lerwick.
The weather deteriorated as the day progressed and we had no choice other than seek refuge in a dog friendly pub. Up an alley designed to assist in the obesity crisis.
Cake shop at the end🤓.
We popped into the tourist information center and have a plan for tomorrow. Boat leaves at 7 for the 12 hours crossing to Aberdeen. Then back to pick up caravan before heading so towards Hadrian’s wall 🏴.
